I feel the need to preface my review here with the sad truth of just how white I am.

Im not just white Im British white. The Burgoine family tree is completely pale. I make snow look street. And in the direct light of a Canadian June sun, I can cause damage to unprotected corneas. I loved it. In Michelle, James W. Michelle takes you on a brief tour of some miserable exes — or one night stands — before launching you on her tale of what might just be the best thing that could happen to a sista in years.

Okay, I tried. Also, the sun is coming out, please don your sunglasses and do not stare directly into the white boy. But with her attitude and a desire to see herself get what she deserves — and Michelle deserves plenty, thankyouverymuch — Michelle decides to change her method.

She focuses on herself for a while. Hits the gym, gets healthy, finishes her degree Daryl looks like sex on a stick — and Mr. Her comparisons are solid, and rooted in contemporary culture, and make a visual image complete with a weak-in-the-knees effect. Daryl and Michelle definitely click, things get playful, then simmer, then Then Daryl suggests they slow down and Michelle should go home.

I beg your pardon? Is she his woman on the side? Is he — oh please no — on the down-low? Is he in need of a little blue helper? I also greatly appreciated her in-your-face desire. An internal dialogue with the reader, Michelle is not one to mince words. And who could blame her? Daryl looms on the page like a dessert you want to gobble whole.

My only issues with the book are minor. It left me wondering if I should already know who these people were, and made me think I had I missed something earlier. I adored Michelle. I liked Daryl. Definitely give this a go. OMG Michelle Larsen has not been so lucky in love. It hasn't been for lack of trying.

She just seems to keep meeting rejects. That is until she meets Daryl Jackson. He's what Michelle has been looking for and the feelings seem to be mutual. But he's too good to be true, right? However, what works for the novel also works against the novel - the narration. Told through the voice of main character Michelle in a conversational tone, her conversation and attitude at times were exaggerated in an attempt to be funny.

Had the author pulled back some, it would have made for a more even and believable read. James W. Lewis is definitely an author to add to your shelf. Reviewed by: Toni 3. Michelle Larsen keeps meeting Mr. She experiences one failed date after another until finally she gives up on men to focus on herself.

When she least expects it she meets Daryl Jackson who by all appearances seems like Mr. But after six weeks of dating Daryl, he has yet to pursue a sexual relationship. So what is wrong with Daryl?

What is he trying to hide? I found the three reject scenes absolutely hilarious. I thought the diction of the dialogue was fantastic and very fitting. It felt as if Michelle was telling me this story about her man problems.

I loved this book. DNF I got through chapter 3 and just couldn't take it anymore. I was turned off from the first page, but kept reading to see if it would get better. It has taken me from March 20thrd just to get this far. The narrator and main character Michelle is just so annoying. There is not one redeemable quality about her from what I have read so far. I can tolerate the ghetto and ebonics talk with the best of them, but this girl is just too much and it just gets to be irritating after a very short DNF I got through chapter 3 and just couldn't take it anymore.

I can tolerate the ghetto and ebonics talk with the best of them, but this girl is just too much and it just gets to be irritating after a very short while. She did have a couple funny one liners but that was not enough to keep me interested. This will probably be my last book from this author. View all 12 comments. a good man is hard to find

On Google News, all the recent uses of the phrase are British, but I found one interesting. But when a presumably American anonymous source starts throwing around British expressions in that English rag, well, as we say in New York, fuhgeddaboutit. This is why I should learn more about linguistic terms…! Yet he was not nasty, the way that others who aspired to his mantle were. Not Mackay.

Mae West was an original feminist, unashamed to show off her sexuality and independence.

A Good Man Is Hard to Find

Origin The phrase was the title of a famous song by Eddie Green in The song elaborated on the fact that one may find a lot of men but they are mostly not the right kind of an alliance since they may wander off. He goes further to say that women who have found the right one should hold on to their men and appreciate them.
